Sherry Cobbler
Flavor profile: light, nutty, and citrus-bright. A refreshing 19th-century classic served over crushed ice—the perfect showcase for fine sherry.
Serves: 1 • Time: 3 minutes • Difficulty: Easy
Ingredients
- 1½ oz Amontillado sherry
- 1½ oz Palo Cortado sherry
- 1 tsp superfine sugar or 0.25 oz simple syrup
- ½ orange wheel
- ½ lemon wheel
- Crushed ice
Garnish
- Mint sprig
- 1 dehydrated orange wheel (Bar Necessities)
- 1 dehydrated lemon wheel (Bar Necessities)
Instructions
- Add sugar (or simple syrup) to a Collins or Cobbler glass. Add the orange and lemon wheels and gently muddle to express oils.
- Add the sherries and fill the glass two-thirds with crushed ice.
- Swizzle/stir until frosty, then top with more crushed ice to mound.
- Garnish with a mint bouquet and dehydrated orange and lemon wheels.
Tips & Variations
- Faster service: use simple syrup instead of granulated sugar.
- Style swap: try all-Amontillado for drier; add a touch of Oloroso for richer.
- Spritz: a small splash of soda lifts the aromatics.
- Mint trick: clap the mint once before garnishing to release aroma.
Recommended Bar Necessities garnishes: dehydrated orange wheels and dehydrated lemon wheels.
